Power Washing
The terms power washing and pressure washing are often used interchangeably. Both are very similar processes and we can help you sort out the differences, and choose which option is better suited to the cleaning needs that you have. Both of these cleaning methods utilize highly pressurized water in order remove dirt and other debris from hard surfaces. There are a few key differences that can help you to determine what method is right for you.
Pressure Washing vs Power Washing
Both of these methods use similar amounts of water pressure to clean surfaces. The amount of pressure that is used really depends on the kind of machine that you are using along with the nozzle. Your household water supply will not produce as much power as an industrial machine will. The one key element that distinguishes the two is a heating element. A power washer will utilize heat and pressure, while a pressure washer will simply rely on pressure. This small difference can make a huge difference when it comes to its cleaning ability.
Power Washing
A power washer involves the use of a pressurized stream of very hot water that is capable of blasting dirt away from outdoor surfaces. This combination of heat and pressure makes this method of cleaning better at removing stuck-on materials from hard surfaces. Power washing is great for removing salt, mildew and mold from places like patios, decks, and driveways. The heating element makes this method particularly good for removing gum from sidewalks or grease from driveways or garage floors. This method can also be used to control weeds and moss. The blast of hot water is capable of killing them and preventing these plants from growing back. In short, power washing is the more heavy-duty cleaning option when it comes to pressurized cleaning methods.
Pressure Washing
Pressure washing uses the same pressurized blast of water that a power washer does, just without the extra element of heat. The water will still do a great job of removing most stains and debris from surfaces, but it will not do as well at preventing the growth of moss and mold like power washing does. Some of the toughest stains will still require the extra heat in addition to the pressurized water in order to produce the best clean.
What’s Best
For every day household use, a pressure washer will serve most of your needs just fine. It’s not as harsh on surfaces, making it great for using on brick and concrete. Larger applications, like commercial spaces or for cleaning a large driveway or outdoor patio space, then power washing may be the best option. Just be careful what kind of surfaces you are applying high heat to, as this may cause damage as well.
